Alum Stone Deodorant Stick

Be careful not to confuse the natural aluminum salts in alum stone with the controversial synthetic aluminum salts.

Alum stone is composed of potassium and aluminum salts. It therefore does contain aluminum, but it is chemically bound in a stable mineral structure. In its traditional use as a deodorant, it is considered to be poorly absorbed by the skin.

However, there are also so-called “synthetic” versions of aluminum salts that can contain aluminum ammonium. It is these salts whose use is not recommended.
